PICTURESQUE WEDDING AT VILLA ANTONIA | NAZLI + EVAN | AUSTIN, TEXAS

Nazli and Evan started out as student peers from the University of Texas at Austin. But, after a successful group project in their Advertising class ended their final semester, they went their separate ways upon graduation. It wasn’t until they re-connected 5 years later that sparks finally started to fly and each realized they had found the One. Evan proposed the night Nazli graduated from graduate school with all of their family and friends in tow!

After dating long distance for 3 long years, Nazli and Evan held their picturesque wedding at the beautiful Villa Antonia venue. The love and understanding that this couple shares is apparent in the personal gifts that they gave to one another which consisted of brushed rose gold holiday ornaments with significant dates on them and personalized stockings that are sure to be hanging over the newlyweds’ mantle this holiday season…

Nazli’s nieces made super adorable flower girls! They absolutely adore their aunt and were so helpful the entire day!

How did you meet and when did you know he/she was “the one”?

We met January 20, 2009 on our first day of our advertising campaigns class at the University of Texas at Austin. It was our last semester of college and we were placed in an epic group project together. We were assigned Kerbey Lane Café as our “client” and tasked with creating an entire advertising/PR campaign for them. Out of our group of six we naturally paired off and made a great team together. We spent hours on end working on the project and eating bowls of queso all around town at various Kerbey Lane locations! At the end of the semester we pitched our campaign along with our group to the people at Kerbey Lane and we “won” the account. They gifted us with Kerbey Lane gift cards and we of course celebrated together by having one more meal together before graduation.

We didn’t realize at the time that we had met our future spouse! Following graduation, life took us on separate paths. It wasn’t until five years later, when Evan was in residency in Oregon and Nazli was in graduate school in Dallas that we reconnected and it was as if no time had gone by! From the instant we reconnected we realized the depth of our connection that withstood distance and time. We dated long-distance for 3 years before getting married. It was the hardest and most rewarding thing we have ever had to endure and it makes marriage that much sweeter! We still can’t believe that we get to wake up to each other each morning and come home to each other every night!

Do you have a super romantic proposal story or engagement memory?

Evan knew that family and friends being included in the proposal would mean everything to Nazli. So he started by asking not only her father for his blessing, but called each of her five siblings as well! Once he had her families blessing, he began to plan the proposal to happen the day after her graduation from graduate school when everyone was planning to come to her graduation party. Evan spent months sneakily texting with all of Nazli’s closest friends from all over the country.

On the morning of the proposal Nazli and her roommate Ashley had appointments to get blowouts at Drybar in preparation for the graduation party later that day. As Nazli was leaving Drybar, she ran into another dear friend, Lauren. Lauren said that she had a surprise for Nazli, but that she would need to change out of her yoga clothes in order to be dressed appropriately for the surprise. Nazli complied and changed into a dress, and was lead out of Drybar into Lauren’s car with her husband Chad at the wheel. Nazli began to suspect something was definitely out of the ordinary! Before she knew it they arrived at the Dallas Museum of Art (the location of one of their first dates!). At this point Nazli was instructed to get out of the car and walk towards the fountain. Evan was standing there waiting for her. Evan got down on one knee and popped the big question! A short while later Ashley, Lauren, Chad, and their best friends the Johnson’s popped out and surprised Nazli! They had been hiding behind the trees taking photos and videos of the proposal. Nazli was in shock as she was under the impression that these friends would be out of town!

After the proposal, Nazli and Evan were taken back to Nazli’s place. Upon opening the door, there were several more friends there to surprise her with champagne and flowers all around! Nazli was in disbelief when she saw all of her closest friends from college, including her friends Tori, Kristy, and her friend Emily that came all the way from New York!

Following this final surprise, everyone got ready and went to the now graduation/engagement party at Nazli’s parent’s house in Fort Worth. The day was filled with family, friends, food, drinks, and joy! It was the perfect proposal for Nazli!

Tell us about your wedding style. When you sat down to really figure out how your dream wedding would look, did you start with one central color, a palette of colors, or a theme that served as your inspiration?

Nazli’s rose gold engagement ring was the beginning of the color inspiration for the wedding. Rose gold was the primary color for the wedding, in combination with dusty rose, ivory, and greenery accents. Nazli knew from the beginning she wanted pearls all over her wedding dress. Once she found her dream dress she wanted to tie in pearls and rose gold in to all the wedding details to create a classic and romantic feel for the wedding.

What did you enjoy most about the process of planning your wedding?

Catering tasting was definitely our favorite part! We are foodies at heart, and we were incredibly confident in our choice to go with Royal Fig! They went above and beyond to make our wedding day perfect!

Looking back, was there a really special moment that you remember from your wedding that stands out as the most magical?

For Nazli, it was walking down the aisle to Evan and seeing his expression! The ceremony and our official union as husband and wife was everything I had ever dreamed of! For Evan, it was seeing Nazli for the first time as she walked down the aisle to him! The string trio was playing “kissing you” by Des’ree which heightened the emotions that were already over flowing!

Did you have a special song that you danced to as your first dance? How did you choose it?

We danced to “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” by Frankie Valli. We chose it because we had a special memory of seeing Lauryn Hill perform her version of that song at Red Rocks in Denver, Colorado. It was such a magical memory, so we decided to dance to the original version for our first dance as husband and wife!

Do you have any tips for couples planning their wedding?

Don’t overthink every little decision. Just go with your gut feeling and trust your first instinct! In the end, the most important thing is that the two of you get to join as one and start your lives together. : )

What are your day jobs/hobbies?

Evan is a Periodontist at Central Texas Periodontics and Nazli is a Speech-Language Pathologist at From The Heart Therapy Services in Westlake Hills. We both love to hike, cook, travel, watch movies, attend music festivals, explore museums, and of course support our longhorns!
