BIRTH STORY | AUSTIN BIRTHING CENTER | BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY

I have been wanting to do birth photography for some time now and I was so lucky that Alissa, a very talented Austin photographer | Alissa Cordoba Photography + Films |  and a good friend of mine asked me to capture the birth of her 2nd baby.

It was so incredible watching baby F come into this world.  My absolute favorite part was seeing the excitement of the big brother meeting his new baby brother for the very first time. Just look at those heart melting images! The whole experience was so rewarding for me both personally and professionally and only made my desire to branch into birthing photography stronger.

Thank you, Alissa for trusting me! Baby F will always have a special place in my heart and I look forward to watching him grow. Congratulations to you all again!

Read below what Alissa had to say about her journey below:

“I can 100% say that the birth of my second child was everything I imagined it to be, and more. It was an incredible, transformative experience that I will always be thankful for. I had planned a birth center birth with my first son, but he had other plans. I went into spontaneous labor at 36 weeks and 2 days, 5 days shy of “qualifying” for a birth center birth. I was lucky enough to have a natural birth experience at a nearby hospital, but I was determined this time around to deliver baby F at the birth center. I wanted the experience of a calm, non-medicalized birth where I, with the direct support of my husband could labor intervention free, and be able to go home shortly after to recover and bond in the comfort of our own space.

At 37 weeks and 2 days, it was time. I early-labored at home for several hours, and by the time we arrived at the birth center I was dilated to a 7. We got some music going, had some snacks and water and my husband and I spent the next 2 ½ hours or so rocking, moving from position to position and breathing together. Transition happened fast and furiously and after 4 minutes of pushing, our beautiful boy was born. I reached down and the midwife handed him to me immediately, and the feeling of him being earthside was immensely overwhelming. It truly was so beautiful and I will always be thankful and not take for granted the entire experience.

Svetlana arrived promptly, and was a total fly on the wall. She was incredibly professional and confident. Just thinking about the photos she got brings tears to my eyes, and looking at them brings on the full blown cries. I simply cannot imagine not having these photos. They are tasteful yet intimate, detail oriented and well thought. Her ability to slip quietly into the situation and quietly out, and make all of us feel completely at ease was amazing. She’s a true gem and I am forever thankful for her talent and passion for her work.

I also can’t say enough about our midwife Michelle, and the care we received at Austin Area Birthing Center South. I felt so taken care of from the beginning, and Michelle was incredibly reassuring and comforting, while still giving me space to labor how it wanted. I’m so grateful she was there to catch my baby and support us!”

Big brother processing it all…
